Case Study – Factory

An illustrative case study of a factory building.

When we were approached by the client, they’d been using a broker to buy their energy for a few years, they’d had solar panels fitted in the past but weren’t overly impressed by the returns and were looking for ways to reduce their energy costs and usage.

Business Power provided the following solutions:

Consultancy
  • Energy management – energy management software, which provided administrative efficiency and savings, managing all bills in one place and giving access to consumption information and remote control of the building management system.
Generation
  • Solar – the factory already had solar PV panels on the roof, however the panels were exporting the electricity they generated back to the grid, for a pence per kWh return which was lower than the lowest rate the client was paying for . The addition of a battery and our work enabled the factory to, when it was favourable to do so, charge the battery using the solar panels, which was automated by our energy management software.
Metering
  • Client had no metering requirements
Procurement
  • Electricity – time of use tariff applied to the site, consistently saving 2p per kWh+, when compared to the most competitive rate available on the market at the time of starting the tariff.
  • Gas – Gas supplier comparison, saving versus the renewal offer and alternate direct quotations
Storage
  • Battery energy storage unit fitted, financed over three years with a projected ROI of 33 months (the battery pays for itself within 33 months of the 36 month finance plan). As the battery has an estimated lifespan of 15 years, the savings which go towards paying for the battery for the first 33 months will then be additional savings once the battery is fully paid for.
Siteworks
  • EV Charging Stations supplied and installed on site, which
